ISU!
Yesterday ended our first IE torunament. Good times at ISU. I didn't get into finals. It was weird; although my ranks weren't that good, my critiques might as well have been radioactive, they were glowing so much. Said one of them, "You really brought this piece to life! Rank: 4"
I shall never understand the mind of a judge.
However, our team did well: 2nd place overall (behind a predictable DGS 1st place victory). The reason why DGS wins EVERY FRICKIN TOURNAMENT is because anyone who auditions makes it, so they have this huge team. The result of this is that they have their pick of the litter to perform and that they have all that many more chances to be first. Unfair, no? See, we at GBN are more selective. We're smaller but more quality-driven. Go us!
Anyway, novice Dan E. got TWO FIRST PLACES!! May I remind you that this would be his FIRST COMPETITOIN EVER!!! (When he sat down in his seat, RJ turned to him and said, "You're going to be impossible to live with after this, aren't you?" and Dan was like, "Yeah, yeah I am.") Oh and Yuri S. got first place in DI. Suprise, suprise. And Nick G. got 3rd in OC! Yay! (He was bloody hilarious; I loved all the accents he used in his piece!) And we had billions of other people who went to final rounds and won high places, but I can't remember them all.
OH! Since I didn't place, I went to Catilin C.'s HI round. I saw this guy who performed this piece based on "The Lion King" called "The Merchandice King". SO FREAKING HILARIOUS!!! Here's my favorite part:
SIMBA: (bright eyed and innocent) Hey there! My name's Simba. What's your name?
TIMON: (bent over, gangster-like voice, holding something between his thumb and forefinger) My name's Timon.
SIMBA: Cool! (squints at something) Hey, what ya got there?
TIMON: This? (smokes thing between his thumb and forefinger) I call this...Hakuna Matatta.
SIMBA: Cool! Can I try some? (smokes it)
MUFASA: (booming voice from above) SIM...BA...
Augh! I could never do it justice...it was too funny!
